Where to Eat on (or near) the Parade Route

We’ve all been there – you’re at the parade, having a good time and suddenly, you realize you need something to eat, but where to go? Lucky for us there is a variety of restaurants and eateries along the parade route to satisfy any craving. Seriously. You could probably walk a couple blocks in any direction and find something to eat, but to help make the decision easier, we’ve put together a list, broken out by neighborhood, of open restaurants on the route. Enjoy!

Napoleon Avenue – Louisiana Avenue

Superior Seafood: In need of something to eat (or drink) but don’t want to travel too far off the parade route? Check out the recently opened Superior Seafood and Oyster Bar on the corner of St. Charles and Napoleon Avenue. Fresh seafood and good ole Nawlins cookin’ is what you’ll find here.  (4338 St. Charles Avenue)

Pascal’s Manale: There is nothing like New Orleans style BBQ Shrimp and no one does it like Pascal’s Manale. If a classic New Orleans dish is what you crave, take the quick walk up to Pascal’s Manale, just above St. Charles on Napoleon Avenue. Remember, because Pascal’s Manale is an iconic New Orleans eatery, you may need to wait a bit. (1838 Napoleon Avenue)

Theo’s Pizza: Open until 10:00 pm, Theo’s is a great spot for pizza. Their extensive pizza menu is sure to please every palate. They also have a pretty decent beer menu! Bonus: there is actually a Theo’s on both the uptown parade route (4218 Magazine Street) and the Mid-City Parade route for Endymion (4024 Canal Street).

Saucy’s BBQ: Saucy’s is a great BBQ spot to dine-in before or after a parade, but they also offer BBQ to go if you want to enjoy some BBQ along the parade route. With Mardi Gras specials on homemade boudin, cajun and alligator sausage, ribs, pulled pork and more – Saucy’s is the place to go if you’re in the mood for some BBQ. (4200 Magazine Street)

The Delachaise: My favorite spot for french fries in the city is the Delachaise. Their fries are cooked in goose fat, which makes them even more decadent (and what is New Orleans food if not decadent?). Whether you’re in need of a full meal or just looking for a snack, the Delachaise is a perfect stop, right on the parade route. (3442 St. Charles Avenue)

The Bulldog: As with many of the previously mentioned eateries, the Bulldog is actually a few blocks off of the parade route but still a great place for before or after dining. It’s a local beer bar so the food is “bar food” but delicious. You can grab a burger and a beer until they close (which is determined by the crowd). (3236 Magazine Street)

Jackson Avenue – Calliope

Avenue Pub: Known as on the best beer bars in the city, The Avenue Pub is one of the best places to be for a Mardi Gras parade. In addition to being open 24 hours a day, with just about any beer you can imagine available, and jello shots for purchase, the Avenue Pub actually has some of the best bar-food in the city. I highly recommend the grilled cheese (you won’t regret it) and fries. Ask for bechemel sauce! (1732 St. Charles Avenue)

Juan’s Flying Burrito:If you’re looking for something more south of the border, head to Juan’s Flying Burrito on Magazine Street. Their margaritas are tasty and you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. I highly recommend the Badass Bacon Bean Dip, which I wrote about a while back. Bonus: there is actually a Juan’s on both the uptown parade route (2018 Magazine Street) and the Mid-City Parade route for Endymion (4724 S. Carrollton).

Tracey’s: If a poboy is what you crave, Tracey’s is the spot for you. Located in the heart of the Irish Channel just a few blocks from St. Charles, Tracey’s has some delicious, classic New Orleans poboys. Because it’s also a bar, they have delicious drinks and cold beer. (2604 Magazine Street)

Irish House: In the mood for some bangers and mash? Irish House has all the Gaelic pub food your heart desires and then some for enjoying right on St. Charles Avenue. With their vegetarian, kid-friendly and gluten free menus, there’s something for everyone. (1432 St. Charles Avenue)

Slice: Slice is one of my favorite spots for pizza in New Orleans. They offer delicious pies, pizza by the slice and, in my opinion, the best calzone in NOLA. (1513 St. Charles Avenue)

Hoshun: Craving sushi? Or Chinese? Or Pho? Head to Hoshun, which draws cuisines of China, Japan, Vietnam and other south Asian countries. Whether you want late night rolls or a bowl of chicken pho, Hoshun has it and they’re open until 2:00 am. (1601 St. Charles Avenue)

CBD/Downtown Area

La Cocinita Taco Truck: New to the Mardi Gras scene this year is the Food Truck. While many of them are not allowed within a few blocks of the parade routes, La Cocinita has been permitted to setup shop in the CBD. Head to La Cocinita for some delicious Mexican food. (St. Charles Avenue and Gravier Street)

Lüke: Whether you’re craving a burger (they have a great one) or seafood, Lüke has something for you. Plus, they offer their own brewed beer. Not only is Lüke one of our favorite John Besh restaurants, it’s right off the parade route. (333 St. Charles Avenue)

Sainte Marie: Just off of the traditional parade route, Sainte Marie on Poydras Street is a great place if you’re looking for higher-end cocktails and a nice meal. I highly recommend the chicken and waffles, made with a crystal hot sauce maple syrup. Trust me, it’ll change your world. (930 Poydras Street)

Lucy’s: By night Lucy’s is an over crowded, jam-packed bar known for their knock-you-on-your-bottom drinks like The Shark Attack, but by day it’s actually a pretty good restaurant. It’s on Tchoupitoulas right by the parade route and good stop if you’re hungry and looking for a drink. (701 Tchoupitoulas)

Borgne: John Besh’s latest restuarant, lcoated inside the newly redone Hyatt, offers a little taste of the Gulf South. Borg’s menu is full of fresh seafood dishes like Deviled Crabs and Stuffed Flounder. But, they also offer other Southeast Louisiana favorites like Duck Poppers and Alligator soup. Manning’s: Say what you will about the giant Manning’s located on Fulton Street, the food is stellar. And, they have sports on all the time and all over the place (seriously. Including the ceiling) – which makes me very happy. If you’re with a big crowd, they’re likely to be able to help, too, since the place is huge. Try the mac’n’cheese – you won’t regret it.
