Even though the New Year is upon us, the musical strides of 2011 in New Orleans continue to be applauded. The Best of the Beat Awards are kind of like the New Orleans Grammys – and not to mention share a nominee with the actual Grammy Awards: Rebirth Brass Band – presented by the New Orleans music authority, OffBeat Magazine. The great thing about the Best of the Beat Awards is that it comes with a lavish party. We know, shocker.

The Best of the Beat Awards will honor the champions in a range of 45 categories spanning Cajun to hip-hop artists. The winners will truly reflect the voice of the people as the results are based solely on voters’ ballots. To weigh in on the running, cast your own vote by January 13.
What would a music awards show be without an overblown celebration featuring performances from some of the most exciting nominees? Not a New Orleans one, that’s for sure, which is why there will be exactly that at the awards party at Generation’s Hall on Friday, January 27, 2012. Some of the headliners include this year’s Lifetime Achievement Recipient George Porter, Jr., Cajun superstars Lost Bayou Ramblers and this year’s nationally acclaimed indie darlings, GIVERS. Tickets to the show are $25 until January 15, $30 from January 16-26 and $35 the day of the event. Needless to say, there will be a decadent spread of nibbles from beloved local restaurants like Martinique Bistro, Besh Steak and The Joint and plenty of beverages of the adult and general population varieties.
Be a factor in the Best of the Beat Awards just by selecting your favorite in each category and help give the winners a proper congratulations at the awards party! Who are your favorite nominees? Let us know in the comments!
