GoNOLA Flickr Pick of the Week: Phunny Phorty Phellows

There’s nothing like catching the first throw of the season from a gesticulating, costumed dude frantically announcing that Carnival has arrived from a streetcar not yet shed of its holiday attire, barreling down St. Charles Avenue. I’m of course referring to the Phunny Phorty Phellows, the official messengers of Mardi Gras, not unlike a bunch of drunk Paul Reveres. Witness the “Heralds of Mardi Gras” embark on their legendary ride on January 6, 2012 – otherwise known as Twelfth Night – rolling at 7 p.m.
