Thanksgiving in New Orleans is a different holiday experience. In addition to the four alternatives we’ve provided to the typical annual pilgrimage (pun intended) to Grandma’s house to eat the age-old recipes in front of a football game, there’s one other uniquely-NOLA Thanksgiving tradition: opening day at the Fair Grounds. On Thanksgiving Day, you can bring the whole family to the race track to bet on horses, have a Thanksgiving meal and a permanent Thanksgiving memory. It’s also a prime opportunity to see festive Thanksgiving derby hats. Like the ladies below, they can get real creative.
