New Orleans is intrinsically romantic, and the city’s alluring architecture is a big part of why that is. Ever wonder what lies behind the charming shotgun houses of Uptown or the decorative Creole cottages of the French Quarter? They seem to hold many secrets behind their facades and that’s because they do. There’s a whole world back there personalized by artistic details found in every crevice. The Art Home New Orleans tour is a special opportunity to explore those residential galleries.

In its second year, Art Home New Orleans presented by the Creative Alliance of New Orleans will guide participants through the city’s best home art collections. Different styles of homes will be featured in the tour from the CBD’s modern lofts housing contemporary art to the flamboyantly colorful homes of the Bywater detailed with exotic furniture and sculpture.

Also on the route is the Healing Center, a multidisciplinary space helping to renew St. Claude Avenue, and a shotgun turned community canvas as part of Prospect 2. Ticket holders are invited to hear local artists including Jonathan Ferrara, Dorian Bennett and Marcel Wiznia explain what inspired them to become and continue to be collectors of art.

To kick it all off, the Art Home New Orleans launch party will take place this Friday, November 18 at the New Orleans Museum of Art. From 6-9 p.m., guests can learn about the culture of collecting art, hear lectures from NOMA Director Susan Taylor and Director Emeritus John Bullard, enter a raffle for tickets and prizes and mingle with the staff of Amelie G who will be handing out free issues of the magazine.

Art Home New Orleans makes this potentially expensive hobby very affordable to observe. For all of the fascinating art and knowledge to be consumed, the price of $15 for a day pass and $25 for a weekend pass is more than reasonable. Purchase tickets at the Creative Alliance website or call 504-218-4807. The tours are Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20 from 12-5:30 p.m.

It’s an exciting time for art fans as much as it is for the artistically inclined in New Orleans, evidenced by Prospect 2, new young settlers creating and collecting copious amounts of different art mediums, and this very event.
