Laughter is widely touted as being the best medicine. If that’s the case, then Hell Yes Fest! is guaranteed to fix whatever ails you. For four days on November 9-12, comedians from New Orleans, Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York will descend upon the city and hand out doses of laughter all over town, including at The Republic, the Hi-Ho Lounge and Cafe Istanbul.
Chris Trew, Creative Director of The New Movement Theater who got his start taking improv classes in New Orleans, is a long time comedy festival veteran. However, something just didn’t sit right with him about how many of these festivals were organized. His cure? Start Hell Yes Fest! and run things exactly the way they should be. Instead of selecting the acts from a pool of applicants who paid to be considered, Chris and company went out and recruited the people they wanted to see perform. In other words, Hell Yes Fest! gives us four days of the stand-up comedians, comedy troupes and improv groups that get the professional funny men laughing. Hell Yes Fest! is bringing 30+ entertainers and groups to the stage, including well known local comics Scotland Green (host of “Think You’re Funny,” Wednesdays at Carrollton Station), Cassidy Henehan (host of “Comedy Catastrophe,” Tuesdays at the Lost Love Lounge) and iTunes Best New Comedian of 2009: LA-based Moshe Kasher.
Excitingly enough, the good news doesn’t end there. Tickets for each of Hell Yes Fest!’s shows are a measly $10! Have a feeling you’re going to be making a weekend of it? Upgrade yourself to the Badass Pass, which provides entry into any event you want with priority seating, letting you snag that front row seat you’ve had your eye on.
