In case you hadn’t noticed, much of life in New Orleans revolves around music. Here, music runs through us; it’s who we are and it’s what we celebrate. The Ponderosa Stomp is just one example of how we celebrate one of our city’s greatest contributions to American culture. The Ponderosa Stomp is an American roots music festival dedicated to recognizing the architects of rock & roll, blues, jazz, country, swamp pop, reggae, soul and other indigenous Louisiana and southern music. One of my favorites, who performs regularly and is on the 2011 lineup, is Lazy Lester. I adore Lazy Lester and his deep, bluesy singing. And his harmonica, of course. My favorite song (and perhaps one of his most famous) is They Call me Lazy. Catch Lazy Lester and dozens of other amazing artists at this year’s Ponderosa Stomp, which will be September 15-17 at The Howlin’ Wolf (907 South Peters St.)
