The Lakeview neighborhood of New Orleans is relatively new, as most of the area was built after World War II – however, don’t let the youth fool you: it has plenty to offer. Close in proximity to both Mid-City and City Park, it’s the perfect place to plan a day trip and even incorporate some kid-friendly activities (or not…your choice).
Here are five Lakeview attractions that you will definitely want to consider visiting on your next trip to New Orleans, separated into categories I find essential for any vacation:
Eat!
1. Nola Beans
Nola Beans is a very cute café offering breakfast and lunch. The wraps and the salad selection are both amazing. Try an iced coffee and an Argonne wrap (roasted turkey, havarti, sprouts, avocado & tomatoes on your choice of wrap).
Location: 762 Harrison Ave.
Hours: Monday-Saturday 7 AM – 6 PM; Sunday 8 AM – 3 PM.
2. Mondo
If you haven’t heard of Susan Spicer, it’s time to stop living under that rock, my friend. The chef’s latest restaurant serves lunch, dinner, Sunday brunch, and a snack menu. Indulge your inner child with an Abita Root Beer Float after trying a dish like Chinese Braised Duck Leg (served with scallion cakes, bok choy, and shiitake stir fry).
Location: 900 Harrison Ave.
Hours:
Lunch: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM
Dinner: Monday-Thursday 5:30 PM – 10:00 PM, Friday and Saturday 5:30 PM – 10:30 PM
Sunday Brunch: 11 AM – 2 PM
*Check out this GoNOLA article for a more detailed review on Mondo!
3. Lakeview Harbor
There are only two things you need to remember when you order here: cheeseburger + sweet potato fries. If you’re especially hungry, go for a steak.
Location: 911 Harrison Ave.
Hours: Sunday-Thursday 11 AM-11 PM; Friday & Saturday 11 AM – 1 AM
Shop!
4. Little Miss Muffin
A nifty boutique offering complimentary gift wrap (thereby making it perfect for souvenir shopping) and complimentary engraving for purchases over $25. There is a good selection of local artists’ work (I love the Two Sprouts apparel for babies) and everything from home decor to jewelry to shoes.
Location: 766 Harrison Ave.
Hours: Monday-Saturday 10 AM – 6 PM, Sunday 10 AM – 2 PM
*You can find more Little Miss Muffin info on GoNOLA here.
Breathe.
5. Lakeshore Park
This is probably the most important part of my vacations: the time I schedule to relax and just soak in the atmosphere and culture of the place I am visiting. The area surrounding Lake Pontchartrain is actually a series of parks, collectively known as Lakeshore Park. Bring a blanket and a picnic basket (or for a quick mid-afternoon snack, stop by Lakeview Brew Coffee Café and pick up a piece of peanut butter pie!) Lakeshore Park is a great place to people-watch and enjoy the calming effects of being near the water.

P.S. If you just so happen to be in town on the second Wednesday of a month, check out the Harrison Avenue Marketplace for a free, family-friendly good time!
