New York street artist, Swoon, takes over the New Orleans Museum of Art with a grand-scale installation suspended from the century-old Great Hall. The giant – almost ominous – sculpture depicting the mighty sea goddess, Thalassa, reigns over the art museum, symbolizing our relationship to the sea, as the artist’s vision intended. As NOMA modern and contemporary curator, Miranda Lash, says that relationship in New Orleans is very strong, as we rely on the sea for food, commerce, energy and transportation. Go visit “Thalassa” on exhibit until September 25.
