If you’ve ever been to Southern Decadence in New Orleans, then you know it’s all about the good times. Originally started as a going away party on Barracks Street in the backend of the French Quarter, Southern Decadence is celebrating its 40th year and is now the largest celebration of GLBT culture in New Orleans and is often referred to as the “Gay Mardi Gras.”
Southern Decadence runs from Wednesday, August 31 — Monday, September 5 (labor day). In addition to what is basically a non-stop party throughout the long weekend, there is a Parade on Sunday, September 4 at 2:00 starting at The Golden Lantern. The parade features a variety of costumes including some scantily-clad men and women (like the gents pictured here). What is, perhaps, the greatest thing about Southern Decadence (other than the scantily-clad folks in costume) is that, regardless of who you are, it’s just a really good time with really good people.
