Just when we thought the upcoming weekend couldn’t possibly trump the last one, New Orleans consistently proves us wrong. This weekend has such a variety of activities, if you attended them all it would be enough to satisfy you for the rest of the month, but of course that won’t happen! The rest of the week’s range of events include Satchmo SummerFest, an annual music festival, and White Linen Night, a multi-gallery art show with an after party, as well as a film screening at a local bar. Bring it on again, New Orleans. We’re ready.
Wednesday, August 3rd:
1. Treme Brass Band at Candlelight Lounge: This is one of those treasured nights that embodies the very soul and essence of New Orleans. If someone were in town for just one night, they could go see the Treme Brass Band at the Candlelight Lounge and totally get our city without even going anywhere else. The Candlelight Lounge, fittingly located in the Treme, hosts the band every Wednesday night starting at 9:00 pm and with a $5 cover charge comes guaranteed dancing, quintessential Nawlins music, red beans and rice and new friends.
Thursday, August 4th
2. Fast Times 80s Dance Party: One of New Orleans’ favorite and longest-running regular dance nights occurs every Thursday at One Eyed Jack’s in the French Quarter. With the drink specials, the on-stage dancers donning their wildest 80s garb, three different bars to choose from and of course the radical 80s (and some not-so-80s) dance music, you can stay there all night, which is easy to do since the party isn’t in full-effect until around 11 pm. $5 cover.

3. White Linen Night and After Party: We’ve already announced the fabulous White Linen Night open-gallery, street-long art show on Saturday from 6-9 pm, but it’s New Orleans, so inevitably there will be an after party just as fantastic as the event itself. The White Linen Night after party will be held at the Contemporary Arts Center from 9-11 pm with DJ Matty of Mod Dance Party spinning old school Louisiana swamp pop and soul vinyl. For $10 you get to dance to great music, see more art on display at the CAC and enjoy some late night nibbles.
Sunday, August 7th:
4. Satchmo SummerFest: Because it’s a New Orleans summer-must, we must remind you of this music festival in tribute of the one and only Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong. Offering a wide-range of food stands from local restaurants, all-encompassing Satchmo seminars and bands of the traditional, brass and swing jazz varieties, the Satchmo SummerFest meets all your New Orleans culture and entertainment needs.
5. The Big Uneasy Screening:
Buffa’s Bar sitting on the French Quarter/Marigny border hosts another night of great cinema on their large scale projection screen, this Sunday with a screening of The Big Uneasy. The feature-length documentary was made by Mr. Burns himself (A.K.A. Harry Shearer). It includes narration and interviews conducted by Shearer and is hosted by fellow New Orleanian, John Goodman.
