The Local Skank are a New Orleans-based ska group. They are known for their rocking live shows and foxy calenders. I sat down with trombone player/vocalist Ashley Shabankareh to discuss how she got into ska, how Craigslist brought the band together and her love of the New Orleans music scene. Their latest release is the album Collect All Five, and it’s definitely worth checking out!

Here’s a sneak peek of the interview:

Do you have a favorite venue to play in New Orleans?
Ashley Shabankareh: I’m a huge fan of One Eyed Jack’s. I just love it to death. I love everyone who works there. I love all the venues in the city, but if I have to choose one to play at and always go to shows. I love One Eyed Jack’s.

What do you love about it?

Ashley Shabankareh: The sound there, the soundguys. I love the bartenders. I love the whole vibe of the whole venue. Those who work there say there’s a ghost in One Eyed Jack’s. That makes it just a little bit better.
