Today marks the start of Jazz Fest weekend two and New Orleans is packed with musicians from around the country.  There are tons of opportunities to see live music throughout the city each night this weekend, but if you aren’t headed out to the fairgrounds or are looking for an event to mix it up there are a variety of amazing New Orleans events to choose from.  Here are a few of my picks for non-Jazz Fest centered events:

Thursday, May 5th:

Shop Fest on Magazine Street in New Orleans

Don't miss this great community event!

There are two amazing events happening tonight – try to make it out for both!

1. Shop Fest on Magazine Street:
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo and support your local shops and business on Magazine St. during their annual Shop Fest with free drinks, live music, special events, truck shows and promotions! It’s one big party that carries down the street. Many of the shops open their doors and offer all kinds of specials and sales.  The fun lasts from 5PM – 9PM.

2. Cinco de Mayo at Superior Grill:
Grab your sombrero and head over to Superior Grill to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in style with a huge block party, live music and of course, the famous Superior Margaritas!

Friday, May 6th:

3. Shakespeare in the Park: A Midsummer Night’s Dream:
Don’t miss opening night of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at NOMA‘s stunning Besthoff Sculpture Garden. Presented by The NOLA Project, this rendition of a Shakespeare masterpiece will take place every Friday in May as a part of the Where Y’Art program.  Tickets are only $10!

Saturday, May 7th:
