NOLA Recommends: Top 5 Things to do after French Quarter Fest

You probably know this already, but it’s French Quarter Fest weekend in New Orleans. In fact, I hope you’re checking this on your phone or iPad standing in line for some alligator sausage on a stick while New Orleans music blares all around you. If you are, well, then you’re definitely winning at life right now. If not, have no fear because we’re stuffed to the gills with live New Orleans music all weekend long. And the music isn’t contained to the French Quarter, either.

Here are five great post-festival shows to see this weekend. Because the only thing better than a good thing is a whole lot more of it.

Thursday, April 7

Stooges Brass Band – The Stooges light up the Hi-Ho Lounge at 10 pm. If you haven’t seen them before, you’re in for a real treat. Their trademark high energy barn burner of a show blows the roof off any place they play.

Friday, April 8

Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes -Everyone’s favorite Big Awesome band, Johnny Sketch takes the stage at Frenchmen Street institution Blue Nile at 10 pm.

Big Sam’s Funky Nation – Big Sam’s sound is truly larger than life. Be prepared to dance, drink, and maybe hug a stranger in blissed-out glee shortly after he takes the stage at Rock N Bowl at 10 pm.

Saturday, April 9

Zydepunks – It’s kind of difficult to explain the unbelievably unique sound the Zydepunks have managed to nail down. Part punk, part German beer drinking music, 100 percent only in New Orleans, they’ll blow you away when they take the stage with My Graveyard Jaw at the Hi-Ho Lounge at 10 pm.

Sunday, April 10

Jammin’ for Japan - End your weekend on a charitable kick at the Jammin’ for Japan benefit at Rock N Bowl. With an all star lineup that includes Jeremy Davenport, Kermit Ruffins, Bonerama, Papa Grows Funk, and George Porter Jr., you won’t be lacking for entertainment. Proceeds go to the NOLA Japan Quake Fund.
