New Orleans is, and has been, in the midst of a mini-food revolution. The revolution is small, not the food. New Orleans food is rarely ever accused of being small. Previously discarded as a convenience food or something to give the kids when the parents were going out for a night on the town, pizza has made a fantastic resurgence in popularity, availability and quality.

It seems like we’ve been stuck in chain pizza delivery limbo for years, but now quality, local thin crust, thick crust and deep dish are all available. Classic toppings, simple toppings, exotic toppings and “local” toppings now grace pies all across the city. Seemingly every day another pizza place is opening or being announced.

So where is the epicenter of this revolution? Arguably, I’d say one could easily point to Magazine Street in Uptown or the cross-roads of Carrollton and Canal in Mid-City (right on the red streetcar line). Both slices of the city boast an exceedingly high number of pizza joints in the surrounding areas. Of course, it is no surprise that both are home to a Theo’s Pizza. Thanks to great food, great drink specials and an awesome staff, we’re frequent visitors to our neighborhood Theo’s.

New Orleans Flavor

Dishing out pies like my new favorite, the West Bank Special (bacon, chicken, roasted red peppers, jalapeños, and pineapple), the meat intensive Marilynn’s POTA Supreme (featuring pepperoni, sausage and hamburger meat—not enough meat?

Turn it up with the Meathead!), or take a walk on the lighter side with the classic Doc’s Margarita (tomatoes and basil). Not digging one of the specialty pies? Create your own pizza masterpiece from 11 different meats, 21 veggies, 6 cheeses and 3 sauces.

More than Just Pizza

But don’t think Theo’s is only pizza, because they’ve got some great appetizers and salads that hit the spot. My favorites are the super simple Theo’s House Salad or the spicy Stuffed Bread Sticks (bread sticks stuffed with jalapeños, pepper jack cheese and garlic).

Theo’s also churns out great toasted sandwiches, like the Pepper Jack, a fajita style chicken (including peppers and onions) topped with melty, gooey pepper jack cheese.

Theo’s also looks out for your bottom line with a number of specials. $1 long necks on Monday, $1 drafts on Tuesday, $10 bottles of wine on Wednesday and sandwich/small pizza lunch specials Monday through Friday.

So what is your favorite Theo’s Pizza? Let us know in the comments!

I love that you can ask them for ‘extra crispy’ and it turns out just so (I’m a big believer in the Marilyn POTA, BTW).
