Mardi Gras day is just one month (and a few days) away, and the carnival season is in full swing in NOLA. Part of the Mardi Gras tradition is catching beads during parades – something children and adults of all ages can enjoy. But, in New Orleans, the streets are lined with trees and, as you might expect, there are a few beads that get caught up in there. Like most everything else in New Orleans, we see this more as a reminder of the good times than as a nuisance, so we keep them up all year round. So don’t be surprised if you’re walking or riding down St. Charles Avenue and you see a tree with colorful strands of beads hanging from the limbs like this tree on Washington and St. Charles.
