I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…we here in New Orleans are spoiled. We are blessed with talented musicians everywhere we turn, and recently one of New Orleans’ own has returned to once again fire up the night with weekly performances across the city.

Linnzi Zaorski has come back home to stay, and I, for one, am thrilled. I first heard of Zaorski a little over a year ago when I came across one of her CDs by accident, and it was love at first listen.

With cheeky lyrics, swinging jazz music and an old-world style, Zaorski is sure to make you yearn for an age when glamor and sophistication ruled the world. She takes her cue from jazz greats like Billie Holiday . And who wouldn’t be smitten with a woman that names one of her CDs Hot Wax and Whiskey? (By the way, I have that one and it is superb.)

Even after moving away, Zaorski has never forgotten her roots, returning frequently to play shows in and around New Orleans. Now that she’s back, you can find her playing multiple shows per week at various venues around the city.

She gives frequent performances at d.b.a and Three Muses on Frenchmen Street, and  Mimi’s in the Marigny. She also provide music accompaniment to regular Burlesque performances at Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse on Bourbon Street.  Many of the shows at these venues are free. I think the most I have ever paid to see her play at one of these venues was $5, and believe me when I say, it would be a bargain at three times the price.

Check out Zaorski’s website for show dates and times. There are shows booked all the way through February, and I’m sure there will be plenty more added as the days go on.
