Half Moon New Orleans

You'll be over the moon for the...sorry, that was just too cheesy to finish.

Want to keep it low-key tonight? Put on some flip-flops and your most comfortable pair of jeans and head to one of the finest dive bars in New Orleans: the Half Moon. Located on the corner of St. Mary and Sophie Wright Place – that strange little triangle at the downtown end of Magazine Street – this is one of the most laid back, inexpensive watering holes in the city.

Grab a stool at the bar or kick back at one the many tables and enjoy some local brews on tap or a cocktail of your choosing at a price that will have your wallet heaving a sigh of relief.

There are always drink specials at the Half Moon, like $2.50 Abitas, $3 Bloody Marys or $1 Jello shots all day. Plus, they frequently hold free crawfish boils during happy hour, but you have to get there quick. You can’t expect free crawfish to last for very long!

Beer is great. Cheap beer is better. Cheap beer at the Half Moon? Perfect.

If you’re seeking a little barroom recreation, there are several video poker machines, a stellar jukebox, and two pool tables for your enjoyment. As a matter of fact, Half Moon faithfuls formed New Orleans’ first Skee-Ball & Drinking League. They meet every Thursday night at 7:00 pm.

Hungry? Need to sober up a bit after those jello shots? Well, the Half Moon has its own grill serving up burgers, wraps and fries ’till late, so there’s no need to leave for a bite. Everything is right there, including a cool, mural-wrapped courtyard where you can sit back and look at the stars spinning round the heavens above.
