When you think of New Orleans, music, food, and a deep sense of culture instantly spring to mind. But what about fashion? The Big Apple easily dominates The Big Easy on that one, but there are several people and places that are setting out to change that. One of those places is in a mysterious looking building on St. Charles Avenue in the Lower Garden District that houses the Eiffel Society.
While it kind of sounds like the name of a group preparing for the coming of Gozer , the Eiffel Society is actually an upscale dinner club and after hours venue. Multiple art installations adorn the space, making for an interesting setting and great conversation pieces. This is all besides the fact that the entire building used to be a part of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Chef Ian Schnoebelen and spirit handler Alan Walter take food and drink and elevate it into the delicious, edible art that is. However, the cuisine isn’t what this article is about. After supper, Eiffel transforms into nightclub, hosting some of the best presented and well put together fashion shows I’ve seen in this city.
Having hosted a diverse list of shops such as Shoefty, Dirty Coast, Angelique, Buffalo Exchange, and even the Amelie G Magazine party, the Eiffel Society has established itself as the place to be. I haven’t been to a single show yet that wasn’t well attended.
What makes these shows different is the thought put into each one. Boutiques, salons, and models come together to bring the best of what they have to offer.
Think these events are just for the ladies? The recent Buffalo Exchange fashion show featured men’s fashion as well.
So next time you are in town, check in with Eiffel Society’s Twitter or Facebook page for upcoming events.
