Catch Chanukah Fever at the JCC. The Mama Doni Band plays a special band of funky Jewish tunes at the Jewish Community Center on St. Charles at 6:30 p.m. Featuring fun for all ages, children are invited to perform with the band. The event is free but reservations are required.

Catch some great music on Frenchmen Street. With the holidays kicking into high gear, it’s nice to get a bit of lagniappe just for you every now and then. Eric Lindell kicks off his month-long stand at d.b.a. on Frenchmen tonight at 7 p.m., with homegrown singer/songwriter Andrew Duhon taking the stage at 10 p.m. Both shows promise to be crowd pleasers, and with a $5 cover for each, quite a deal as well.

Saturday, December 4
Get your picture taken with Papa Noel at the Le Marche des Fetes at the Pitot House. This annual holiday market kicks off at the historic Pitot House on the scenic Bayou St. John at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, with Papa Noel available for pictures from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Local artists, New Orleans merchants, and authors Peggy Scott Laborde and Jessie Poesch will be there to help check things off your holiday shopping lists and sign books. The event ends at 4:00 p.m.

Kick off the holiday shopping season with Merriment on Magazine. Looking for a perfect gift for that special someone? If you can’t find it on Magazine Street, it probably doesn’t exist. To kick the holiday season into high gear, the Magazine Street Merchants Association is hosting Merriment on Magazine all day this Saturday. Expect discounts, sales, specials, refreshments, and lots of holiday cheer from merchants all along the Magazine Street shopping corridor. There will also be a contest the day of the event featuring gift certificates and prizes. For every $50 spent within one participating store the day of the event, shoppers will receive an entry to win. The contest will start when stores open and will be valid for purchases made on December 4th. The winner will be announced on Friday, December 10.

Of course there’s a parade. Kicking off with the Krewe of Jingle parade down Canal Street at 1:00 p.m., Saint Nicholas Day festivities include live music, pictures with Saint Nicholas in Jackson Square, another parade down Decatur to the French Market, and shopping specials at participating businesses. Sponsored by the Downtown Development District, the annual festival will be fun for the whole family and runs until 4:00 p.m.
