Clever Wine Bar: A Gem in Mid-City New Orleans

Don’t get me wrong. The French Quarter has plenty of good bars. But if you just so happen to be thirsty, and you’re anywhere near Mid-City New Orleans, make your way to Clever Wine Bar. Tucked away in the American Can Company, Clever Wine Bar boasts over 400 wines, artesian beers, and get this…mixed drinks, too. And now I must borrow a line from Clever’s website and ask, “So, what do you want to drink?”

If your answer is, “I don’t know”–which is exactly what I say every time I go there–then you should definitely get there for Clever’s happy hour every Tuesday-Friday. They offer four different wines from their menu for just $4. Wine lovers—can we say, “Score!” In addition to this most fabulous happy hour, Clever hosts a tasting every Tuesday that will be sure to help us novices gain the confidence to order that next glass of wine like a pro, or at least get drunk enough to not even care.

Once you decide on a drink (or drinks), Clever invites you to stay and listen to the many local bands that play every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Bands such as The Courtyard Kings and a personal favorite, Kelcy Mae, provide the perfect sounds to compliment any glass of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Sazerac, Zombie Fizz, Abita Amber or Miller High Life–do I need to go on?

Grab your friends, your family, and/or the random strangers you met on Bourbon Street, commandeer one of the comfy couches, and taste your way through all that Clever has to offer. And I’m sure that once you’ve done that, the nice people at Clever will be more than happy to call a cab for you.

So again I ask: “What do you want to drink?”
