Antoine’s Annex: The one stop spin-off shop

A recent phenomenon here in the Big Easy is that many restaurants are sporting “spin-offs.” In most cases a highly acclaimed restaurant opens a smaller space nearby that sports more casual fare and a more casual atmosphere. Cochon has done it with Cochon Butcher, Arnaud’s has done it with Remoulade and more recently, famed New Orleans restaurant Antoine’s has pulled it off with Antoine’s Annex. However, unlike the other spin-offs, the Annex focuses more on pleasing your sweet tooth.

The Annex's Pulled Pork Panini

The Annex is a full service chocolate shop, bakery, coffee shop and ice cream parlor. To top it off, you can also grab a bite to eat, as the Annex offers an array of salads and a handful of sandwiches. Thinking that this spin-off was much like the rest that had been popping up around town, I headed in to grab some lunch. Thankfully, although the lunch menu is short, it is powerfully stacked with tasty options. I opted for the BBQ Pulled Pork Panini and scored big. The menu advertises this sandwich as part of its light fare, but I was satisfied by the time I made it through the very large panini and chips. While paninis seem to have found themselves on every menu in the country by now, the Annex’s panini sets itself apart with the creative “panini relish,” a fine combination of bell peppers, onion, mushrooms, garlic and basil. The relish combined with the BBQ sauce produced an extraordinary array of flavors for a panini. As satisfied as I was, the Annex’s work wasn’t done yet, I needed a little something more. Thankfully, the Annex could deliver just about anything I wanted.

A sack of crawfish that is easy to carry!

Made it through your sandwich or salad and ready to top it off with some sweets? Or perhaps you’ve hit about 15 antique stores on Royal and can’t enter another one until you’ve gotten that jolt from some coffee. Or possibly you just need a little frozen treat to break up your day. The Annex can help with all of that. A wide range of ice cream flavors will cool you off, the made to order coffees will keep you warm, and the candies, well the candies will keep you smiling! And as many of the candy selections cleverly play off life in New Orleans, they make a great treat for sharing a part of New Orleans with others. Ah, the perfect opportunity to grab a gift for those you love, and reward yourself for being so thoughtful. Thanks to the Annex’s wide array of offerings, whatever your day needs, the Annex can help.
