What New Orleans has in local culture it can sometimes lack in national chain stores. New Orleanians love shopping local but sometimes it is nice to enjoy what everyone else has. Needless to say fashionistas are positively giddy that Anthropologie has finally arrived in the Big Easy!
I was fortunate enough to attend Anthropologie’s invite only grand opening this past weekend. The 9,000 square foot space is dreamy and no detail has been overlooked. Servers were on hand making the rounds with wine and Pimm’s Cups for partygoers. If only I could shop like that everyday! A live band was also there to ensure a festive mood.
What makes this Anthropologie so special is that they hand selected several New Orleans artists to showcase their wares in the store. From jewelry and clothing designers, pottery artisans and even the in-store decorations, Louisiana talent is well represented. The artist roster includes the women mentioned in this post. Even the art work adorning the walls is local and many of the decorations were assembled by employees.
Ten percent of all purchases on grand opening night went to For the Bayou, a grassroots, non-profit founded in San Francisco in 2008 by Louisiana natives to increase public awareness of the disappearing Louisiana coastal wetlands and assist Louisiana residents in the event of a disaster.
My friend and fellow fashion blogger Ashe of Dramatis Personae also posted her grand opening experience. It seems that everyone is loving being able to shop Anthro locally instead of driving to the Baton Rouge location or ordering online.
