If you haven’t attended a DJ Soul Sister Right On Party Situation, you are doing yourself a serious injustice. I have never danced as much in my life as when I got some old school funk in my life courtesy of her serious dj-ing skills. When you attend a party by the famous DJ Soul Sister, expect to hear all the funk, groove, disco and soul your ears can handle.

Besides her out of this world parties, you can check  out DJ Soul Sister on WWOZ and at various music festivals.  For many years she has done a show on WWOZ 90.7 FM called Soul Power.  This is the type of show that will make you want to stand on your bed dancing in your favorite 70′s costumes. You can also check out my beloved DJ at such festivals as Essence, Jazz Festival and the upcoming Voodoo Music Festival.

DJ Soul Sister has been on the scene sharing positive soul vibrations since 1994.  How can you not love a woman who named herself after the classic, “Bold Soul Sister”, by Ike & Tina Turner in 1970.   DJ Soul Sister once said, “When I use “soul” in Soul Sister, the “soul” refers to the vibe, the warmth, the joy and the energy of music I am playing or of the event that I am throwing.”  The vibe and joy is definitely not lacking at one of her events. Her style brings together people of all communities and shows the true meaning of New Orleans’ culture.

What makes her even more special is the fact that she only plays vinyl. She is definitely one DJ I can count on at some point to feed my Prince obsession!  In fact, the number one thing you should know about her, is the fact that she can recite all the years of release, album titles and personnel for most P-Funk Records; she’s just that dedicated.

So check her out while you’re in town or catch her radio show once you’re back home and missing New Orleans.
