Seersucker might as well be the official summer fabric of the south. We even have an event dedicated just to those wrinkled stripes. Whether you wear a traditional seersucker suit or use it as an outfit accent there are many ways to wear it. I asked three different Magazine St. shops to help me create some summer outfits that highlight this cool, comfortable summer option.
American Apparel is known for their everyday basics as well as outrageous club appropriate pieces. Seersucker bloomers are an unexpected shorts option. They’ve also paired it with suspenders and a neck scarf or a simple white, lightweight jacket and shorts.
Buffalo Exchange employees Alanna and Melvet give a vintage and nontraditional nod to the look.
Alanna is wearing this vintage blue cotton dress with white detailing from Goudchaux’s, a now defunct New Orleans department store. The dress is accented with a seersucker clutch.
Melvet is wearing Ralph Lauren seersucker pants with an unexpected twist. Frye boots, a tank, and cardigan make for a unique aesthetic.
Hemline on Magazine St. is selling a great new label, Jolie & Elizabeth from local design team Sarah Dewey and Jolie Benson. The focus is on the South’s favorite stripe and there is a dress shape to suit everyone’s tastes.
Sippin’ in Seersucker is a fundrasier being held at the Ogden Museum. Y’all might as well go and test our your new outfits. For more information on this fabulous event and to purchase tickets go here.
